Plastic Optical Fiber Coupler with High Index Contrast Waveguide Taper
A simple low-cost Y-branch plastic optical fiber (POF) coupler which can be assembled easily by the end users has been developed. The acrylic-based Y-Branch POF coupler consists of input POF fiber, a middle high index contrast waveguide taper and output POF fibers. The optical device is based on a 1 × 2 Y-branch coupler design with a middle high index contrast waveguide taper. Nonsequential ray...
متن کاملHigh-efficiency single-order waveguide grating coupler.
High-efficiency single-order grating coupling between an optical waveguided mode and a volume wave is achieved by means of a double-sided corrugated cover film that has phase-shifted undulations. A greater than 90% outcoupling ratio into air is demonstrated for weakly guiding ion-exchanged waveguides. The conditions for efficient coupling and the tolerances on them are established.

متن کاملHarnessing the Properties of Optical Channel Diversity in a Multi-mode Silicon Nanophotonic Waveguide for High-Speed Data
Vastly growing data traffic demands across system interconnects have driven the need for increased bandwidth densities. Using a single silicon photonic link waveguide, mode-division and wavelength-division -multiplexing are performed simultaneously to garner an aggregate bandwidth of 60 Gb/s for error-free (BER
متن کاملBridging the gap between nanophotonic waveguide circuits and single mode optical fibers using diffractive grating structures.
In this paper, the use of diffractive grating structures to efficiently interface between a single mode fiber and a high index contrast waveguide circuit is outlined. We show that high index contrast grating structures allow for broadband and high efficiency coupling. Since no polished facet is required on the photonic integrated circuit to interface with the optical fiber, fiber-to-chip gratin...
